How to Onboard New Flat Owners to Your Block in 24 Hours

5 June 2026 · 6 min read

A new owner moves in on Friday. By Monday they are messaging you asking about bin days, the service charge, the managing agent and whether the lift is actually broken or just slow. A good onboarding process answers all of this before they have to ask.

The 24-hour onboarding checklist

  1. 1Send an invite link to your block's communication platform.
  2. 2Post a welcome announcement tagging key info: bins, parking, contact numbers.
  3. 3Ensure they can access the document library (insurance, accounts, minutes).
  4. 4Add them to any open votes so they can participate from day one.
  5. 5Optionally introduce them in the WhatsApp group for social chat.

What new owners need immediately

  • Who manages the building and how to reach them.
  • What the service charge covers and when it is due.
  • Any current works, consultations or block decisions in progress.
  • Emergency contacts for leaks, lift breakdowns and security issues.

First impressions last

Blocks that onboard well keep good residents and attract better buyers. CommonCouncil makes it effortless: send one invite link and the new owner sees recent announcements, open votes and key documents straight away. No printing welcome packs, no repeating yourself.
